New Friend

I found this guy crossing the trail while I was on a walk with my parents while they were visiting. After talking to several people at work, it seems that the tarantulas are out in force around here lately. I wonder if it's their mating season.

Here's a picture of the same tarantula with my shoe for scale. Not huge, but big enough for me.

Yellow Explosion

In the last few weeks, a wild yellow flower has bloomed pretty much everywhere in and around Flagstaff. Unfortunately, I have yet to ID the species, but they are adding a beautiful blanket of yellow to the Flagstaff landscape.

If you happen to know what species of flower it it, please let me know, so I can identify it here for my readers. You will get full credit of course. :-)

This photo may seem familiar to you. It is also the banner photo I have been using for the last couple months. It is one of my favorite photos I've taken this summer. It was taken on Switzer Mesa during the height of the wild sunflowers at the end of the monsoon season.
